There is something about story that we adore. People love stories. People love to tell stories. People love to listen to stories. It's something within us that captivated by a story. Or people are bored and want to be entertained.

Think of the movies? Novels? Romance? Magazines? Newspapers? Documentaries? Friends' conversation?

What do they all have in common? They are all in a story format. In other words, they're "tell". In recent years, effective marketers and advertisers adapt storytelling strategy in order to capture the minds of men and women; children and old. It works splendidly.

I believe it is time you ought to learn the art of telling. Tell your story to your friends, strangers and co-workers. Practice and pay attention how people react to your story. At the beginning, it's hard. Everything is hard at first.

Here are several steps to become a better storyteller.

1. Preparation. There is no way around it. Sit down and write down why you want to tell your story.

2. Authenticity. Honesty is everything. You shouldn't be a politicians, marketer, lawyer or advertiser. Tell the truth. It has to come from your heart.

3. Dream. It must purpose. A story should be telling a dream of someone. Someone who wants to achieve his/her dreams. And the purpose of telling the story is to share your vision with others who will help you. Your task is to win them with authenticity.

4. Audience. Who is your target audience? Are they assisting you achieve your dreams? Do they open to new ideas?

5. What are your audience's beliefs? Are they open or narrow minded? Will they listen?

6. Context. It's about finding the words and tone of the story. Are they young? Old? Women? Men? Rich? Working class? The language is different to different groups.

7. Space and time. Where and when will you deliver your story? It's important. People will listen when they're comfortable. You can't persuade people after long day at work.
